Great Baddow Fire Station holds its first training course
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is holding the first of three on-call firefighter training courses at Great Baddow Fire Station over the next two weeks.
Ten trainee on-call firefighters began their training at Great Baddow Fire Station on Monday, 13 September and will take on a two-week intensive training course before they continue their training at fire stations across Essex.
The training course is the first of three training courses being held at Great Baddow Fire Station this year where over 25 new on-call firefighters will train to help in their communities.
The first course is being held over the next fortnight and will see on-call firefighters learning the skills needed to deal with a variety of incidents, from house fires to road traffic collisions, water rescues and chemical incidents.
The next two courses are due to take place at Great Baddow Fire Station on 18th October for two weeks and 22nd November for two weeks.
For anyone thinking of becoming an on-call firefighter in Great Baddow, the Service is holding drop-in sessions for you to meet some of the serving on-call firefighters and to watch the new recruits training on:
- Thursday, 16 September - 2pm - 4pm
- Tuesday, 21 September - 1:30-3:30pm
- Friday, 15 October - 2pm - 4pm
- Wednesday, 20 October - 2pm - 4pm
- Friday, 26 November - 2pm - 5pm
- Monday, 29 November - 2pm - 5pm
Station Manager Dan Wastell at Great Baddow Fire Station said: “It’s great to be holding training courses here at Great Baddow Fire Station and I look forward to welcoming more people into our team and at our other local fire stations.
“Our Service has been holding on-call firefighter training courses around the county to enable our new recruits to train in the area they will be serving in. It’s great for our new recruits to start working with the colleagues they will be serving with and for us at Great Baddow, it’s great to meet our new colleagues joining us and our local on-call fire stations.

“We’re holding a number of drop-in sessions over the next couple of months where you can meet some of our on-call firefighters and see our new recruits in training. You can find out more about what the training entails and hear from serving on-call firefighters about the role. Pop in and see us on any of the dates above and we can tell you all about the role and answer any questions you have.”
