Cycle challenge raises more than £1,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity

Well done to our North East Command Group managers Simon Dedman, Danny Partridge and Scott Meekings, and Station Managers Carl Pullen, Pete Neal, Quentin Sage, Syd Barrett and Stuart Hare who cycled the entire length of their area this weekend from Manningtree to Burnham, a total of 200km in two days.

Their fundraising total currently stands at £1,045 for The Fire Fighters Charity, smashing their £500 target.

Simon said: “Everyone made it to Burnham, despite some rather questionable choices of bicycle and equipment. There are few tired legs and sore posteriors now but I am very proud of the team who stepped up to the plate and completed the challenge, raising so much money. A huge thank-you to everyone who donated to the Just Giving page. With so many competing good causes and especially with the current troubles everyone’s generosity is amazing. It would be remiss of me not to thank Nick Singleton and Pete Neal for their help with logistics and Karen Warren for her help with the fundraising, I know that they would each have liked to take part in the cycling but were happy to assume supporting roles. Finally, a big thanks to USAR who helped us out with a boat crossing from St Osyth to Mersea on the Saturday and went the extra mile to keep our feet dry.”

Scott Meekings said: "It was more of a challenge than I had initially anticipated. Although the distance wasn’t huge, it was really tough due to the strong winds and boggy, gravely, uneven costal paths. We could have easily doubled the distance had we been on roads, but then where is the challenge? If we are raising money for a charity that works hard to care for members of the Fire Service and their families, then we should work hard to raise money in return.  It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and thank you for everyone's generous and kind donations!”

Danny Partridge said: “It was an excellent weekend, tough but great to raise money for the charity. We all slept well on Sunday night as it was a mixture of road and off-road cycling.”

If you were impressed by their efforts you can still donate here.
