Crews give out safety advice in Harwich

We’ve been at The Quay in Harwich this week giving out safety advice and information following the recent fire.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to chat to us about everything from fire safety, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and the importance of having chimneys swept regularly.

Dovercourt Station Manager Jason Gould said: “As well as being at The Quay over the past two days, we visited 50 properties in the area, spoke directly to residents at 25 homes, made five referrals for home fire safety checks and fitted eight some alarms. Following on from our conversations over the past two days, our Community Safety Team will be going back to the area again to fit more smoke alarms and provide further support.”

If you missed the team, our safety advice is also available here including information on how you can book a free home fire safety visit.

Did you know we’re recruiting on-call firefighters at Dovercourt Fire Station:

On-call firefighters are paid to protect their local area by responding to incidents such as fires and road traffic collisions as well as community safety work.

You’ll need to live or work within five minutes of an on-call fire station so that you can respond quickly when paged. You’ll also need to be over 18 years of age and physically fit.

Head to our recruitment website for more information.

Three drop in sessions have also been arranged where people interested in becoming an on-call firefighter can pop along to the fire station in Fronks Road and meet the team.

They are taking place on:

  • Thursday 21 July 6pm to 8pm
  • Thursday 28 July 6pm to 8pm
  • Saturday 6 August 10am to 2pm
