Virtual Reality Road Safety

A significant number of road traffic collisions involve young drivers, and these collisions usually involve one or more of the following ‘Fatal 4’ causes:

• Speeding
• Using a mobile device (distraction)
• Driving without a seatbelt
• Driving under the influence of drink or drugs

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service engages with young newly qualified and prospective new drivers to provide education about the risks and consequences of driving out on the roads. In order to make these educational activities attractive and appealing to young people we have introduced a new virtual reality road safety product.

Using virtual reality headsets and headphones, we can expose young people to a truly realistic and immersive experience of being involved in a serious road traffic collision.
